About
Balancing abstraction and realism, my series of aerial photographs, AERIAS, show grand scale, fine detail, and often a painterly sense of composition. The work is a depiction of familiar landscapes from an alternative viewpoint, the earth, as seen from above. I work with ambiguity of scale and the strong graphic quality of nature and the hand of man on nature.
The images present a sense of selective design applied to an extremely small but significant area of the vast landscape over which I fly. I have logged nearly a quarter of a million miles in my vintage Cessna in pursuit of aerial photography as a fine art.
Most of the photographs are made from an altitude of one thousand feet.
